Chapter 13

What impact has video game play had in your life?

I don't play them every day but I play a lot. Once I find a game that I really I can sit down and play it all day. I love playing video games, especially by myself. They give me time to just relax; when I'm playing I don't really think about anything else. Once basketball started getting tiring I played a lot less but I still bought games and stuff. So I would say that video games play a big role in my life. I don't have to play every day but I do need them to try to keep me a little sane. They also make it a little easier to interact with guys because they play them so often.

Chapter 10

"What are the key elements to successful public relations?"

I think that picking your targets is the most important key to public relations. You have to be able to sell your product, wheter it be a person  or an actual product. If people dont want to buy it then your out of a job. Then actually making people aware of the project is anther key elements in public relations. If people dont know that a product is being sold then there is nothing to be bought. Actaully making people want to buy your product is difficult too.

Chapter 10

"Will there be continued need for public relations? Explain your position."

Yes there will be a contunious need for public relations because someone will always need for someone to be "sold". Public relations open peoples eyes to the things around them and the things that could be valuable to their lives. Without public relations jobs are going to go down and umemployment rates are going to go up; our economy cant afford that. So there may not be a high demand for public relations like there is for a doctor or lawyer but they are needed. As much as people wont admit it them will continue to be used no matter how good or bad they are becuase our society needs any type of publicity it can get.

Chapter 8

How can we clean up violence and sex on television?

I honeslty dont know if it can be cleaned up because we are so programed and used to it. As sick as it sounds that is a very true statement. I think that we can attempt to change that by keeping it away from our younger generation. We have to stop allowing the children to play violent video games and watching violent TV shows, but whne you think about it even their kid shows have violence in them/ For example, figting over a toy or something, yes that give them greta ways of handling the sitaution but that doesnt take from the fact thta kids shows are supposed to be violence free.

Video Games

The very first video game I remember playing was the Nintendo 64. Me and my little sisters would rush home from school just to play Donkey Kong on it for hours. Then as we got a little older we got a PlayStation and we played Crash on the for hours a day. We eventually got a PlayStation 2 and a Sega Dream Cast, but we didn't play them nearly as long as the other two games. We had fun playing all of them though.

Chapter 9

"What makes a good Web page design?"

The first thing that interests me in a web site is the font size and type on the page; if it's to hard for me to read I will just leave the page even if the information was perfect for waht I was looking for. Then the other thing for me is the colors on the page. The colors have to accent each other; you shouldnt have a yellow background with white letters. Those colors dont go very well together but if you have a black background with white letters that goes better and is a lot easier to read. Pictures on the page is a big one for me. When I read my mind and eyes wonder a lot so if there is pictures or video on the website I wont really read what the words say becasise I will be to side tracked by the other stuff. So for me pictures and videos should be kept to a minimum and only used of they are really need.

Chapter 9

"What are some new Web technologies?"

Facebook and Twitter are probably the most popular new web technologies. Im sure that most of the world has a facebook or twitter account or both. Even if they only use them every blue moon, but I know my generation uses one or the other on a daily basis. It is the easiest most popular way to communicate with people. Then there is Skype, it might not be as popular as the other two but people still use it. It is used more by people who are far away from home who cant see their family on a regular basis. Then you have all these new online dating sites for gays, lesbians, old people, black people, christians, etc. There is a dating site for anyone taht is looking for one and the more you want to be specific the more specific sites there are for you. Its crazy all the online dating sites that there are now.

Class Discussion

It looked like most people had some form of Netflix whether it was on the PS3 or the XBox. So therefore many people spend most of their time atching TV online. It seemed like everyone watches way more TV than I do and I though I watched a lot of TV. They have thei shows that come on at specific times and watch them like I heard a few people mention the series Heros. I think I watched half of a show. The few people that had DVR ot Tvio didnt really use it much, I think one person said that they used it when they would miss a show because of class or something and i think someone said DVR was to time consuming. That was the first person I heard say that; most other people I talk to love their DVR. Maybe I will actually have to use mine and see what its all about.

Chapter 8

Why are there so many reality shows on TV these days?

There are so many reality TV shows on TV because that is what is attracting people. We love to watch the misery, romance, joy and conflict in other people's lives. Watching other people suffer and live is a lot easier for us to sswallow than having to deal with our own lives. When we can get away from reality we do; its just something about other people's lives that draw us in. We especially love the drama other other people's lives and these directors know that and are feeding off of that. For example in shows like Bad Girl's Club your not aloowed to fight and that show is a few years old now but in Jersey Shore they can fight. Jersey Shore is finishing up two years this fall. Just the whole dynamic of reality TV is changing and that is entertaining to us.

Chapter 7

What movie genres are most dominant now?

Movies about killing are very popular among young adults. For some reason we are drawn to these movies; they are entertaining. I know when I watch them I am both disgusted and curious; I am curious as to how someone can come up with some of the plots that they come up with for example the Saw series. What type of human writes that and what of human enjoys that are the top questions I ask myself. But I enjoy the movies so I don't think to much about it. Then there are cartoon movies that are very popular. More children are going to the theatres and more adults are watching cartoon movies in the theatres because their young children. These two genres balance themselves out on two different extremes; one is extremely high (cartoon movies) which still have some violence in them and one is extremely low (horror movies).

Tuesday, March 15

Movies...

I have always enjoyed watching movies. Ever since I was a little girl; the Lion King was the first movie I can remember ever watching, but my parents used to say I loved to be in front of the TV. Now I prefer to watch more cartoon movies than anything. But the one other type of movie that has my attention is horror movies, especially the Saw series. I have watched every movies from that series and every Halloween since they started coming out I have went to the movie theatre to see them. I don't know why I like them so much they just have my attention. As far as buying movies from the store recently I have been into buying them but only way I buy them is if I see them before and really like it. I get boot-legged videos from back home to watch first then I decide if its a movie that I want.

Chapter 6

"How do companies sell their Cd's?"

It wasn't a question out of the book but Dr. Nelson asked it in class, so I thought I would write about it.

I know when I was younger and used to actually buy Cd's the artist sold the Cd for me lol I didn't really know what I was getting until I brought the Cd. I've never really been that into music so when I bought a Cd it had to be by someone I really liked. Then the extra stuff that came with it just made it a million times better. If I know that I can a poster of someone that doesn't make me want to go buy the Cd in the stores. I mean can download the Cd to my IPod or a disc and then just go buy a poster from the store. That seems like its a lot cheaper any ways. I think in order to make people want to buy Cd's they have to know that they are missing out on something. Like someone in the class mentioned a lot Cd's have bonus tracks which makes people want them a little more but as also mentioned in class you can probably get those bonus tracks somewhere else. If companies can some hoe keep these songs/tracks off the internet the Cd sales could possibly go up.

Chapter 6

"What are the limits on freedom of speech in radio broadcasts?"

Today there really aren't any limits on freedom of speech in radio today. People can pretty much say anything they want on the radio and be protect by the First Amendment. It doesn't really matter if it is true or false, good or bad they say it. I mean somethings aren't supposed to be said but the radio stations don't care. Many people don't care, anything to get a little publicity and attention. There aren't really any real morals for a lot of people today. It is kind of sickening to hear some of these radio stations and their topics. I only listen to the radio when there is music playing when anything else comes on I put my Cd's in. My IPod has become my best friend because I don't like the contest and conversations that they have on the radio. So, I don't think that there are any limitations.

Chapter 5

"How can listening to music by others help us to understand them?"

I think that a lot of people who write their own songs tell stories all the time of their life. The music they write usually has a deeper meaning than we as people think. But if you listen to the lyrics by artist who write their own music you can really understand them. I'm not saying that they absolutely have to write their own music to get to understand them but it makes it a little easier. When they perform what other people write you are usually getting the feelings of the person who wrote it. We just have to really pay attention to the messages given to us by artists because a lot of people just listen to the music because the artist or the beat. In order to better understand them you have to make a real effort to understand them. People have to really understand that they are human and they have issues in the past and present time that people face everyday. That's another way for us to better understand the artists that entertain us.

Chapter 5

"Who controls the music?"

Yea the people who produce and publicize the music have some control over the music industry and what type of music gets populated to us. In the end we the people control the types of music listened to. For example there was a radio station back home that didn't play nothing but rap, hip hop and R&B but once people started complaining that they didn't hear their "songs/music" on the radio it became a radio station that plays all types of music. We decide what kind of songs for artist to create by the reactions to the songs that are out there already. The more different people are the more we seem to like them. This is just fine because there are more people now in the world willing to be different than before, so they artist kind of feed of this too. Artist have a little control in the music because they have to perform it but they always keep in mind how the audience is going to react to their music.

Chapter 4

"What is the impact of Internet on newspaper?"

Newspapers are using the internet to make more money on their papers. For example the New York Times used to charge you to use their newspaper online. You could preview the articles but eventually you would have to subscribe to their paper to get the whole article. The internet makes obtaining the information from the paper easier and more convenient for those who use the internet everyday. For example the Argus Leader has an online paper too and you don't have to subscribe to it to get the information, so for people who don't have time to stop at the store they can just go online. This can be a good and a bad thing. This means that more people are spending more time in front of the computer which can be just as bad as sitting in front of a TV all day. On the other had since out society is becoming so computer based it it kind of good because it will help people to learn to navigate the web.

Tuesday, February 15

Argus Leader Comparison...

There were more advertisings in the actual paper then there were on the website. I liked how the website had their topics in the papers across the top that you could just click on to go to, but in the newspaper you have to look all through the paper to find what you were looking for. You could sign up for an account if you wanted so that you can get all the news at your finger tips, instead of having to go into the store to buy the paper. I liked how you if you hung over the news, sports, voice, etc. links it showed you a few of the articles and a picture to go along with one of the articles, which was kind of like the actual paper. I think that the paper and site were a lot alike and carried a lot of the same information, the website was just a little more fun to go through.

Monday, February 14

Newspapers...

When I was in the fifth or six grade is probably when I first used a newspaper. We had to do an assignment on the sunrise and sunset for my science class so I had to go out everyday and buy one. As far as the articles in the newspapers I do not think that I have ever read an article in one. If I pick the paper up back home it is strictly to look up basketball game statistics from the night before. I enjoy reading most of the time but I cannot pick up a newspaper for whatever reason and just read it. As far as my experience with them I have been in the newspaper at least once a year since my senior year of high school, only for basketball though. I don't ever read those articles either I just make sure to grab them do that I can give them to my mom; she likes to make scrap books and stuff like that out of them. But I don't pick up newspapers enough to know what has changed and how they have changed over the years.

Crissxross

Tailspin

This story is pretty interesting. Maybe not the story itself but the graphics behind the story is probably what interested me the most. The story was about an old man that was a pilot during one of the wars and how much he loved dong that. His daughter really looked up to him when she was a little girl; not so much anymore, she is more focused on her children. Her father is going deaf and refuses to get a hearing aid; therefore, he is usually cranky and angry because he cant hear a lot of things and doesn't understand a lot of what is going on because of it. He is so bent on the old days and how things used to be that he seems to be really angry with his daughters children. Its like he wont come to reality and never does.

The site was really fun to navigate through only thing was that the information you were reading was out of order, or atleast I did not know the order to read it on. Each page had about five swirly things on it, each swirly thing had a little story on it. With each story there was music to match the topic and pictures flying across the screen. For example it talked about a guy being trapped in a burning plane, so they had flames of fire show up on the screen and the sound of a fire truck in the background.

Chapter 3

"How is technology changing the way print media is produced, distributed and read? Is this a good thing?"

Technology is making things a little more accesible by everyone. People do not have to go to stored to find the books they are looking for. For instance if someone wants a cook book all they have to do is go online and they can order it from there. Even better most places give you the option of having a copy mailed to you or allowing you to download it to your computer.

Chapter 3

"What is a recent trend in magazine delivery?"

Magazines are being delivered in many different ways. The most popular are through subscriptions and buying them in your grocery store or markets. Although those are the most popular many people are buying magazines electronically; lots of people are just going on their ebooks and purchasing them. This is much more convenient than having to go to the store everyday to buy a magazine or waiting once a month for your subscription to be delivered. Ebooks are much more efficient and much less time consuming; you can also save money this way by avoiding having to use gas to go to the store and a lot of times the magazines are the same price or cheaper on the ebook.

Chapter 2

How do genres develop?

People develop the different genres. Without us there arent any genres. When different trends come about and get picked up on different genres are created. When people arent afraid to be different, genres are born. Its pretty fun trying to create new norms. And everyone's norms are different which makes it even more fun to watch as they grow. The thing that makes it even better is that people create their own genre. For example my friend is skinny and really cocky so he walks arounf talking about he has skinny boy swag. That is his genre when he describes himself thats how he describes himself. I dont know its different for everyone, but if you really watch its fun to watch as well.

Chapter 2

"What are the main social functions of the mass media"?

The mass media is used to lure people in. With the mass media more people are watching witch is giving these companies more target people and with more target people there are more people that could actually want the product. The mass media is also used between conversation. If someone sees something on TV or heard something on the radio that they liked they are more likely to mention it to their friends then people who don't. The mass media is used to inform people and with this information more information travels between companies and people.

Assignment 1

My way of writing English For New Media Assignment...
Hope you like it, it was kind of fun to make. It took me a while to find everything that I needed for each letter. Then finding a place to put the camera was even harder lol But I finally figured it out. And this is what I came up with.

Chapter 1

"Describe what convergence has meant in your life and how it affects you?"

It took me a while to integrate the new technology into my life. I have never been really big into what everyone is doing so I have always been a step behind everyone. Since I have slowly added things into my life is has been pretty fun. Like since I got my first digital camera I have been addicted to taking pictures. I love trying to capture moments so that I can go back and relive them. So convergence has been big in my life I still don't care what people are doing so it has it moments when its important. I stay glued to my ipod since I got it tho. I hate going places without it;I get tired of hearing people and dealing with people so I try to bring it with me everywhere. A lot of the technology I use makes it easier for me not to have to deal with people. I am not really a people person, so if I can isolate myself from people but still be connected to people I feel fine. So, convergence has played a huge role in my life; without it I wouldn't be having all the fun that I am having with today's technology. But I think that it has also made me a lot lazier as well. So it has it positives and negatives like everything does.

Inventory...

I own 2 ipods, one ipod touch and one ipod nano. I use my ipod touch on an every day basis and my ipod nano ocassionaly when I go shoot in the gym or something. I love reading so my dad just recently brought me an Kindle. So I get to play around with that now. I own my own laptop as well, I rarely use it tho because the school gave us one too. The only other technology that I really use is my cell phone. I text and send more picture message more than anything else.
